Back to Watch Relay

Terms of use

Last updated October 2026. Watch Relay is a free student project by Liel Weinberger for the 2026 Congressional App Challenge.

Watch Relay is not a lifeguard

Watch Relay helps adults take turns supervising swimmers. It can’t see the water, detect drowning, or rescue anyone. An adult must always be watching the water, whether or not the app is running. Learn CPR, and keep a phone ready to call 911.

Alerts can fail

Alerts depend on phones, batteries, internet connections, GPS, and push services, any of which can fail without warning. Silent mode and Do Not Disturb can mute alarms. Never rely on the app as the only thing keeping swimmers safe.

Weather and tide information can be wrong or late

Storm warnings come from the National Weather Service, which only warns about severe storms. Ordinary thunderstorms can produce lightning with no warning. Tide times are predictions from the nearest NOAA station, not live measurements. If you hear thunder or see lightning, get everyone out of the water and indoors, whatever the app says.

Using the app

No warranty

Watch Relay is a free student project, provided “as is,” without any warranty. To the extent the law allows, its creators aren’t responsible for any harm, loss, or damage from using it or from it not working.
